Google targets more services with ads

19/11/2008

Google is experimenting with the addition of text and display ads to a number of its online services.

Nick Fox, director of business product management for Google, wrote on the search engine''s official blog that the company is launching text ads on Google Finance in the US.

It is also mulling over the possibility of adding display ads to the service and is set to trial the use of ads on certain Google News pages in the future, he explained.

This follows the recent launch of test ads on Google Image Search, as well as a number of new advertising opportunities on YouTube.

Mr Fox said: "Whenever we make changes like these, we carefully evaluate users'' reactions to ensure we''re holding true to our basic principles: that ads by Google should always be relevant and useful."

The search engine may be looking to recoup revenue that could be lost due to the downturn - Sandeep Aggarwal of Collins Stewart, an investment banking organisation, recently predicted flat growth for Google''s cost-per-click revenue in the fourth quarter.
